Learning 2.0 @ UVic
According to a recent article on the BBC website, Web 2.0 applications are here to stay. "Enterprise 2.0" businesses are prepared to spend around $5 billion on social networking tools by 2013. This is turning into more than a fad!
For those who are already familiar with some Web 2.0 technologies, this is a chance to share your expertise with the other participants. For those who are happy using email to connect with friends and colleagues, this will be a chance to find out what someone in the next office or cubicle is using in addition to email.
Something… something else.
Learning 2.0 @ UVic for Anybody
When will it happen? The launch is set for December 3rd!
How does it work? As a participant you’ll work on your own to explore five topics over seven weeks and complete suggested activities. In the first week you’ll set up your own Facebook and Instant Messaging (IM) to communicate your experiences throughout the program back to the group.
Who’s participating? Just about anyone! What about you?
Really, who should participate? This is an opportunity for UVic Libraries employees (Curric, McPherson, and Priestly staff members in CUPE 951, Librarian, and PEA positions). We’re sorry but staff members in casual positions are not eligible to participate at this time.
How many can join? Because this is a pilot program, participants are limited to 20-25. We hope to get a good mix of ALL employee groups from all units in Curric, McPherson, and Priestly.
How much time will it take? Approximately 1-2 hours per week.
Who are we? The Learning 2.0 @ UVic Libraries Task Group: Cheryl DeWolfe (IT & Technical Services), Michael Lines (Priestly Law Library), Kathryn Paul (Reference & Collections Services), Chris Smith (Access Services), David Brown (Staff Orientation & Training Resource Office), and Scott Downing (Access and Branch Services).
I’m interested! What do I do now? Email ac.civu|niartbil#ac.civu|niartbil (David) by November 29th. Before signing up, please obtain permission from your supervisor. Sign up early for your best chance to be a part of this exciting program. An announcement will be sent out on December 3rd confirming the launch details and the participants.
Recognition
This program has borrowed some of the great ideas from similar Learning 2.0 projects which were offered by Queens University Library and McMaster University Library.
